Nepal is one of the most diverse countries in the world. There are around 100 Nepali languages and dialects, and a similar number of ethnic groups, each with their own cultural, religious and customary practices.
The country has had a turbulent history, closed off from the world until the 1950s with a medieval feudal government, and never colonised.
